JUNE LinkedIn Discussion

PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY & REFLECTIVE PRACTICE

Join the conversation on LinkedIn or contact me to see how we can work together to build Psychological Safety and Reflective Practice in your Service.

Psychological Safety

Psychological Safety is about more than just fear, it is about having the confidence in your setting and believing it is safe to be honest without embarrassment, blame or negative consequence.

People will hold back when they worry that it might lead to

Blame - "If I raise a concern, I might get in trouble myself"

Judgement - "I'm worried other staff will think I am stupid or incompetent"

Past Experience & rejection - " when I gave suggestions before and raised concerns, nothing changed and no one acknowledged my views"

Conflict - "I don't want to say anything that might upset certain staff"

Things you could try to improve Psychological Safety in the workplace:

Always respond with curiosity yourself, example that questions help us all grow.

Model honesty, admit to small mistakes and explain how reflective practice shaped your decisions. Leaders go first.

Create space for conversations, explain if you're unsure always ask, that is part of best practice.

Be careful not to unintentionally build barriers:

Time - rushing conversations, not giving space for questions. Moving too quickly for questions shuts people down,

Over reliance on systems - making staff think they can only raise concerns or ideas in certain spaces such as team meetings & 1:1s

Psychological safety grows when everyday interactions feel safe, not just scheduled ones.

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE POST COMING SOON

From Principles to Practice: A Collaborative Approach

In the care sector, most organisations maintain a comprehensive annual training matrix to ensure staff understand the core principles of each subject area. At JIGSAW, we go a step further, bringing those principles to life by embedding them into the day-to-day delivery of your service.

Our training is built around cultivating an “ACE” attitude:
A – Acceptance of others’ views and opinions
C – Curiosity, encouraging continuous questioning and learning
E – Engagement, being fully present and involved each day

Through this approach, we support individuals and teams to reflect, learn, and grow—driving continuous improvement in both service delivery and the wellbeing of everyone involved.

Care services are fundamentally built on relationships and solution-focused practices. Whether providing direct support to individuals or offering guidance as a manager, delivering best practice is essential. At the heart of this is the development of strong human skills—communication, active listening, empathy, and genuine care—woven into everyday practice.

Training that counts

Social care isn’t just work—it’s responsibility, emotion, and constant pressure.

JIGSAW exists to support the people carrying that weight.
Through leadership development, team growth, and reflective space, we help you build something stronger—together.
